Dekalb County Educator Professional Learning Series
Navigate in partnership with Byron Hospitality Consulting presents a day of educator professional development. Dekalb County CTAE educators meet for an in-person culinary demonstration showcasing Afro Caribbean cuisine. Hosted by Chef Scottley Innis at Atlanta's Shular Institute, educators cook deliciously trendy food while participating in a discussion about diversity in the hospitality industry.

Students join Resident District Manager, Ryan Whitten at the Coca-Cola Company Headquarters' state of the art facility. Students learn about the fast paced and meticulous world of high-volume food service. The visit also includes a grand tour of one of the most premier corporate food service sites in the city of Atlanta.

Students cook with the world’s first African American Certified Master Chef, Chef Daryl Shular, CMC, at Atlanta’s only black owned culinary school – Shular Institute, in a rare opportunity to learn culinary skills, leadership and prestige in the world of culinary arts.

Our high school students tour the Art Institute of Atlanta and cook alongside famous and nationally recognized chef/restaurateur, Chef Deborah VanTrece of Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours. Chef VanTrece leads our group in discussion about what it takes to succeed in the industry, while coaching the preparation of some of her favorite dishes.

Students visit one of Atlanta’s most influential minority Executive Chefs and TV personalities, Chef Scottley Innis of The Continent Restaurant for an exploration in international cuisine. Students receive a quick lesson in restaurant budgeting, portion, cost control and product seasonality.
